CE TOWN: Fast bowler Anrich Nortje, senior player Ottniel Baartman, and Ryan Rickelton are among South Africa’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States and the West Indies from June 1–29.
The 30-year-old Nortje has missed more than a year’s worth of RS7SPORTS international matches due to recurrent illnesses. Since making his comeback this season, he has participated in six IPL games and amassed an embarrassingly high economy rate of 13.36 runs per over.
Baartman, who took 18 wickets in eight T20 matches this year, was acknowledged for his outstanding performance in the SA20. The leading scorer, Rickelton, with 530 runs at an average of 58.88, is also a wicket-keeper.
The players on the team, led by Aiden Markram, include power hitters Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, and Tristan Stubbs.
South Africa has selected three front-line spinners: Bjorn Fortuin, Keshav Maharaj, and Tabraiz Shamsi. Markram is a solid substitute for slow bowling. To prepare for the tournament, South Africa will go to the West Indies for a three-match Twenty20 series. In the 50- or 20-over format, MKSPORTS has never won a World Cup.
